Today was the last day of the research trip and a few hearty souls squeezed their last few hours out at the National Library which was opened until 12:45. Today was also the second day of the Back To Our Past Conference and most of the group attended. There were stalls (booths) from most of the major Irish genealogy players and a large presence from both Ancestry.uk and FindMyPast.ie. Shows over here seem to be more focused on the exhibit area with only two lecture tracks going during the day. Back To Our Past is a part of the Over 50 Show which I understand brought in 20,000 people last year.
I enjoyed having an opportunity to talk with some of the vendors and got to attend a couple of the presentations. I'm doing a lecture tomorrow on Finding Irish Emigrants in Online U.S. Records.
Tonight we had our final dinner at the Shelbourne Hotel on St. Stephen's Green. It was a wonderful ending to a great week. Sean O'Duill spoke about Irish Matachmaking and Marriage Customs and kept everyone entertained with his stories.
Tomorrow some are returning to the States while others are extending their trips out to the countryside to visit the places their ancestors lived. If you've enjoyed the highlights of this week and are interested in making the trip next year please contact me.
