I'm headed to Springfield, Illinois tomorrow for the FGS Conference. I've written before about how valuable these conferences are both from a learning and networking standpoint. How great is it to be with a thousand other people who care about their ancestors and can share in your passion. If you'll be there and you see me, please take the time to stop and introduce yourself. I'll be doing three sessions...two on Wednesday and one on Thursday.
For those of you who have not attended a national or regional conference (in 2009 Dick Eastman did a survey that showed that 63% of the respondents had never attended a conference) you've got plenty of upcoming possibilities. Although the largest conferences tend to be the FGS and NGS Conferences, most states or regions have a conference as well that may be easier for you to attend. The Florida State Conference is scheduled for November 11th and 12th this year in Orlando. If you're planning ahead, the NGS Conference is May 9-12, 2012 in Cincinnati, and the FGS Conference is August 29 - September 1, 2012 in Birmingham, Alabama.
I hope you'll plan to attend next year.
