New England Regional Genealogical Conference

Just finishing up my packing for NERGC.  With a 6 am flight tomorrow morning, I need to get a jump on this.  I’m really looking forward to seeing all of my New England friends since I don’t get back there as often as I like (and when I do, it’s usually to visit my girls).

The theme for the conference is Navigating the Past: Sailing into the Future with two excellent keynote speakers, Lisa Louise Cooke and Judy Russell.  I received the Syllabus electronically the other day and with great excitment started to check off the sessions I planned to attend.  Over the two and a half days of the conference there will be over 95 lectures, as well as one on one assistance through the Ancestor’s Roadshow, Special Interest Groups and an exhibit area (where I will be purchasing some additional FamilyFinder kits from FamilyTree DNA).  If you’re planning to be there, I’m lecturing on Thursday at 12:15 pm (There’s an App for That!) and Friday at 8:30 am (Navigating the Best Online Sources for Irish Research).  I do have to leave right after my presentation on Friday morning, but try to find me and say “hi” on Wednesday or Thursday.

I always like to remind people that conferences are an excellent opportunity to learn not only from the lectures, but also from other attendees.  If you can’t make it to one of the large national conference, look for the regional conferences in your area and take advantage of them.  If you can’t get there during the week, there is usually a Saturday program with the ability to register for just one day.

   Happy Hunting!

The recent six-hour class I conducted for the Virtual Institute, Strategies for Finding Your Irish Ancestor is now available for purchase on their website.
