See you in Ft. Lauderdale

NGS-2016-ConferenceLogo-PRESS-2

In just a week, I’ll be leaving for Ft Lauderdale for the National Genealogical Society Conference.  This is the first time since 2004 that one of the National Conferences has been held in Florida.  For me, that’s great…a three hour drive rather than a flight.  Hopefully you’ve registered by now and are working on your schedule.  NGS offers a mobile app to help with your planning.  I was finalizing mine today so I could block out some time to volunteer at various booths.  You’ll see me at Registration on Tuesday, and at some point at the Association of Professional Genealogists, the Genealogical Speaker’s Guild and the Virtual Institute for Genealogical Research.  That’s one of the great things about Conferences…visiting with friends, old and new.

I’ll be doing two lectures on Saturday, May 7th.  For all you early risers, I’ll be doing Using Griffith’s Valuation to Identify Your Ancestors Origins: A Case Study at 8 am. There’s so much more to Griffith’s than just names and the hour will be full of hints, tips and tricks to help you identify your ancestor.

The second lecture is at 2:30 on Saturday, Seeking Your Scots-Irish Ancestors.  Typically we think of the Scots-Irish as those who emigrated in the 18th and early 19th centuries.  Getting them back to a specific location in Ireland is a challenge and in this session, I’ll look at the time of resources you can use here in the US to identify their locality in Ireland. Also, at 4 pm, David Rencher is discussing Irish Immigration into the Southern States, which is a great follow on if that’s where your ancestors ended up.

If you can’t make it to Ft. Lauderdale, another option is to register for one of the Streaming Sessions…and you don’t have to be available at the exact time.  Once you register you be able to have access to the recordings until August 7th.  The deadline for registration for Live Streaming is May 3rd.

Another way to keep up to date on the conference is through Twitter.  Just search on  for all of the social media bloggers who will be live Tweeting (including me)!

I hope you’ll be there and I look forward to meeting you.

   Happy Hunting!
